Address queries to the Acquisitions Editor

Don’t try to be clever, as many advice columns urge, but tell us in plain English:

what you have written: fiction or non-fiction, novel, etc.
how long it is: estimated number of words
what its theme is: what it’s about, in one sentence
why you think we might be interested

who you are: name, where you live; if you live “away”, what connections – if any – you have down east (former Maritime resident; related to current Maritimers; story is set in Atlantic Canada)

Trinity:
chooses Atlantic Canadians before others if quality meets our standards.
is particular interested in

“green” fiction: novels and book-length collections of short stories set against ecological problems – climate change, loss of habitat, etc. – “green” fiction for children and young adults.

Mystery and fantasy novels for either adults or young adults

General self-help

We are particularly interested in these themes and will consider manuscripts from anywhere on these themes. We are not, however, restricted to them.

We are currently not reading poetry or children’s books

Include a self-addressed stamped envelope if by post.

We try to reply promptly – within a day or two.

We do not want to see sample chapters, diskettes, or attachments at this stage. Your letter will tell us all we need to know.

Should we wish to explore your proposal further, we will ask for:

exclusive reading rights for three months
your full manuscript, hard copy in the usual form:
double-spaced
plain white paper, 8 ½" x 11", one side only
1" to 1.5" margin all around
12 point Times New Roman font
no binding (rubber band only, if necessary)
SASE – a postcard to confirm receipt
envelope if you want your manuscript back should we not choose it
Please use the top line of each page for headers: your name, name of the manuscript, page number in upper-right corner.

We are easy to approach and work with, but please do as we ask. Our acquisitions editor will not, for example, accept a manuscript that is single-spaced.

We look forward to many good manuscripts.
