Allison, you would think, has it all: a new house in Calgary. A really great husband—who, by the way, has a really great job. A good university degree. And, to cap it all, she comes from Ontario and now lives in Alberta. The less fortunate might think she has an enviable launch pad from which to begin her adult life. But Allison has been spoiled by “all this”—definition: what some call affluence, others call not-quite-enough-because-not-all-and-all-at-once. Because of her “gimme” appetite that is not instantly gratified, Allison adds alcohol to the mix and narrowly misses losing everything that she started with. Feminists may be disappointed in Allison’s choices for her “new” life, but… they are, after all, Allison’s choices.

Katherine Doan , like her characters, is young, lives in Alberta, and has a good university degree in journalism. This is her first published fiction.

This novel is awesome! A must read for anyone who survived the 90's as a young or young-ish person...or their parents. It is funny at times and sad at times. Would love to see more from this author.
