When you’re 16 years old and longing for an adventure, you can read about one. Sometimes when you read about adventure, you become envious of the characters whom you read about but because you are only 16 years old, there is not much you can do to experience your own adventure. And so, you write a book about adventure. And soon, the characters whom you have created become your friends and you care about them and what happens to them. They drive you to write about them and so their adventure––your adventure––continues on as it becomes more and more alive in your head and through your hands to pen and paper.
