Stephen "Stevedore Steve" Foote joins Loonie Link
Posted By: Catherine Thompson , on Friday, 20 July 2007
Stephen "Stevedore Steve" has joined the Loonie Link family and will be bringing his book of cartoons, Presenting the Pea Pod People, and his latest CD to us for sale. An internationally known entertainer and recording artist, Stephen Foote has brought New Brunswick and the Maritimes to the world through his songs, poetry, and artwork.

A native of Saint John, NB, he left his home city at age 16 to travel throughout North America, working his way from place to place. He worked as a truck driver, a lumberjack, a tobacco-picker, a cowboy, and a stevedore, whence came his stage name "Stevedore Steve." His songs are mostly anthems to the working man, real slices of the life with which he's familiar, but Steve has written children's and humorous songs, including "Lester the Lobster," which was included in Reader's Digest's "Great 100 Favourite Children's Songs of All Time."

As a recording artist, he toured Canada and elsewhere both as a support act for such performers as Stompin' Tom Conners and as a headliner in his own right. During his travels, he frequently sketched and painted what he saw around him, and the beauty of Northern Ontario as well as Chaleur Bay have left a lasting impression on his work.

In 1997, he was awarded the Stompin' Tom Award for Exceptional Contribution to the Music Tradition of Atlantic Canada by the East Coast Music Association.
