Pastor Don
Just a MinuteIs a legacy I received on arriving at Hillcrest Baptist (Church). It was content without a framework. Since the message time limitation was 60 seconds the title Just a Minute seemed pertinent. That title was given a bed of music and the byline, "Just a minute can change your life". Pastor DonMy birthplace – small town, Ontario was a quiet place to live in; but my home wasn’t. For unfortunately my father not only worked hard but also drank hard and a lot of my youth was spent in hiding from him. But God found me out and drew me out of hiding and gave me hope and help. Upon graduation from university, I applied for a career in the Canadian Forces. I intended to join as a soldier–in–the–rank. The military tested me for leadership. I spent 10 years as a Infantry officer with the Army of The West and the Airborne regiment. I planted a land stake in the mountains of B.C. and anticipated and planned for a predictable future. But then God...!! My future plans for me and His plans for me collided. Unexpectedly, He called me to leave the military for His ministry. It was one of those life defining encounters that Shakespeare wrote about saying. "There is a tide in the affairs of men which...omitted...is bound in shallows. ...And we must take the current when it serves or lose our ventures." 3 years at Acadia Divinity College and 24 years of subsequent ministry in Newfoundland, Nova Scotia and New Brunswick–plus chaplaincy within the Maritime Reserves, have proven to me and to mine that, "Where God guides, God provides."
